Alexis van El: Art Workshops
Alexis van El is a sculptor, artist and printmaker who has taught for many years at private studios, art colleges and adult institutes. She teaches drawing, sculpture and carving. Her especial passion is encouraging students to delight in the processes of drawing or sculpture and to enjoy their developing skills, whatever their level of expertise.
Experimental Drawing Classes
For both beginners and those with experience, a series of classes exploring different approaches to drawing, using all sorts of materials from charcoal to teabags. These are studio based classes in small groups.
Contact me for details of the next Experimental Drawing Classes.
Museum Drawing Classes
These are structured classes in Drawing Skills, for small groups working within museums and galleries from drawings of various periods, and from sculpture in relief and in the round. The Workshops consist of a number of different taught courses where both beginners and experienced artists can indulge their interest in drawing using the resources of London’s Museums and Galleries, from the glories of the Parthenon Marbles to the subtleties of drawings by Michelangelo, Rembrandt or Henry Moore.
The classes consist of a series of directed projects. You can work at your own pace, encouraged and supported as you follow a series of processes designed to develop your range of drawing skills whether you are a complete beginner, or a confident artist who would enjoy the stimulation of new drawing approaches.
The courses will each last for 4 to 6 weeks. Each class will consist of a half day session of three hours with a half hour break. You can join one class or book a group to build your skills and confidence over a number of weeks.
There is also a shorter Sunday morning Class on the last Sunday in the month.
There are two slightly different courses on offer.
1 - Drawing in the Round
One course is for those who wish to draw objects in the round, and we will work on sculptures, carvings and plaster casts in various London Museums and Galleries.
The current course is running on Tuesdays till April 3rd.
The Tuesday course will run on 4 alternate weeks from April 17th to May 29th
The Sunday morning classes will continue on the last Sunday of the month.
2 - Drawing from Drawings
The second course will be for those who would prefer to draw from other artists’ drawings. We will work on examples from the rich drawing collections of the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert and the Tate Britain among others, both in the museum galleries and sometimes in the quiet of their study centres.
In order to welcome you into the sessions in the study centres I require you to meet me for an interview or to have done some work with me already. This is because I am expected, as a pre-condition of my running the groups, to guarantee the safety of the valuable original works on paper we will be using.
Once you have done so I ask you to sign read and sign the museums rules for use of the study centre, and then the joy begins, as we work from original drawings and prints, works by Michelangelo, Turner or Henry Moore, for example
